Lyrics
WHO'S GOING TO SAVE YOU
Words by Robby Romero
Music by Robby Romero and Steve Addabbo
we touched down in the city of decadent poverty
the exiled monk traveled alone
spirits like the future waiting patiently
while they searched for the sacred blue stone
lost in the passion of midnight revolution
through the darkened post war door
gia (our mother) knelt down in the shadow of mortal bondage
not asking for much asking for more
who's gonna save you
who'll take the risk
who's gonna save you
from all this
the faithkeeper gathered his people
escaping the greed and lust
where clergy men were making deals
in who's name you trust
nobody heard the hopi's prayer
stone prophecies turned to dust
who's gonna save you
who'll take the risk
who's gonna save you
from all this
tattooed politicians challenged
parliamentarians intention to keep
believers shackled to a memory
while the others they just put to sleep
i could here her singing
blocking soldiers in the street
she feeds them spices of chernobyl
her river of army's
they'll never defeat
now feel the violent breath
smell the burnt poisoned skin
here the volcanic deadly scream
taste the silence from within
who's gonna save you
who'll take the risk
who's gonna save you
from all this
hey
who's gonna save you
who'll take the risk
who's gonna save you
from all this
PUT A HERO ON YOUR SHELF
Words & Music by Robby Romero
it's definitely obvious
we're living on a stage
broadcasted blasted
on every front page
this constant courtroom carnival's become a cage
and the will of the people taken by rage
if it gets too heavy
put a hero on your shelf
throw a penny in the well
they say it's all meant to be
can't you tell
terrorism, kidnapping, hostages are in
take a deep breath it's hard to win
like a holy war twisted out of time
i can't tell no more is this a game or a crime
if it gets too heavy
put a hero on your shelf
throw a penny in the well
they say it's all meant to be
can't you tell
bad-jacket that movement
take AIM
relocate the people
change their name
is there a bomb
on this plane
self appointed leaders looking for someone to blame
if it gets too heavy
put a hero on your shelf
throw a penny in the well
they say it's all meant to be
can't you tell
children under the son
do you believe in freedom
in this land of conspiracy
do you think it's really all meant to be
are you free
"SACRED GROUND"
Words by Robby Romero and Suzan Harjo
Music by Robby Romero
Spoken Word Senator Joe Liebermen, Faith Gamnil
and Senator Paul David Wellstone
messages from holy places
where summer winds whisper
and snow thunders worn
this is sacred ground
the biggest bunch of hokum that anybody has tried to sell
here on capital hill is that drilling for oil in the arctic refuge
will have anything to do with solving the middle east crises
let alone have anything to do with breaking our energy dependence
it will not do it
intrusion of the sacred place where life begins
would destroy the livelihood of my people
and the birth right of our future generations
there is another path for our country
it is clean technology
it is small business
it is saved energy
it is renewable policy
and we'll win this fight
MY MISTAKE
Words & Music by Pamela Sawyer and Gloria Jones
Performed by Dakota René
i had you in the palm of my hand
i let you slip through like grains of sand
at the beginning when i didn't care
like my own reflection you were always there
my mistake was to love you boy love you boy
my mistake was to give all my love to you boy
many smiles you put on my face
i pay dearly with the tears i taste
my tenderness made you cold not sweet
cause if a girl loves you you only call her week
my mistake was to love you love you love you boy
my mistake was to love you love you love you boy
in front of my friends
you broke me down
since than darling
it's hard to track you down
my mistake was to love you boy love you boy
my mistake was to give all my love to you boy
my mistake was to love you love you love you boy
my mistake
at first i had you
here in my hand
but i let you slip through
like grains of sand
at the beginning
no i didn't care
now your reflection
isn't there
THE SOUND
Music by Robby Romero
Spoken Word Dune Lankard
ever since the nations worst oil spill
the people believe that the oil is gone
they look at the pristine prince william sound
and they think that the place is cleaned up
and there's no more oil
here we are and crude oil still remains
in the sub-service of the oil spill zone
they tested over 1500 sites along the 1600 miles of cost line
and found that over 50 percent of the beaches
were still contaminated with crude oil
and that's not going to change anytime soon
so now the twenty eight species
that were the most heavily impacted
from the exxon valdez oil spill
only two are on the recovered list
and that's the bald eagles and the river otters
it's my fear that the gwich'in nation
will lose what they have right now
and that's an intact subsistence life style
that's how I felt about prince william sound
and now we're living proof of what can go wrong
so if there is any oil spills on the tundra up in the arctic refuge
there is absolutely no way the oil industry can clean it up
not now not ever
WHAT EXXON MEANS
Written & Performed By Malani O'Toole
years have past and now it seams
we realize what exxon means
sounds of the sound sound no more
and her heart it aches for the life before
and she says...
she looked across the blacken sound
broken hearted at what she found
ROUND AND ROUND
Words & Music by Robby Romero
hey you where are you coming from
do you know where your going
where the truth is rarely scene
you can feel it blowing
up ahead in the distance
all the time knowing
there's no future in turning back
the cards you hold are showing
round and round and round we go
through the day into the night
black red yellow white
round and round and round we go
until we get it right
hey you who you working for
do you know what you buying
are you in the business of living
are you busy dying
with your leaders making promises
you know they're lying
yea you the people take back your government
can't you here your nations crying
round and round and round we go
through the day into the night
black red yellow white
round and round and round we go
until we get it right
round and round and round we go
through the day into the night
black red yellow white
round and round and round we go
through the day into the night
round and round and round we go
until we get it right get it
HEARTBEAT GWICH'IN
Words & Music by Robby Romero
Spoken Word Clarence Frank, Michelle Van Dyke
and Chief Evon Peter
as the purple sunset fades
are we really here alone
and all that's real seems so far away
sacrificing tomorrow for yesterday
there's a heartbeat louder than thunder
revolution is in the air
there's a heartbeat deep inside our mother
are you to cool to care
i really don't want the drilling to go on in the arctic refuge because it'll change the migration route of the porcupine caribou heard
and i believe it that its a bad decision to make
the gwich'in are mostly caribou people we call ourselves
we won't be caribou people without the caribou
and it makes me mad because that's all they have been doing is coming in and taking our land
there's going to be no subsistence anywhere one day
no animals, no freedom, no nothing
were entering a time where we need to really shift the pyridine of how we think about our relationship with each other
and with the land and with the animals
roll back the darkness
we need to be humbled as people around the world
and except that we are not really
the dominating controllers of the universe
we've been blind for far to long
this is something that is so necessary for us and fundamental
in these times of change as we are becoming
a global society around the world
and the spirit they could never really see
you can't take away from me
there's a heartbeat
there's a heartbeat
YA NA NEH HO
Words by Robby Romero
Music by Robby Romero & Jessie Ed Davis
there's thunder in the distance
lightning dances in the sky
there's a spirit i follow
through the rainbow in your eye
the smell of sweetgrass draws me to
a place in time with you
ya na neh ho
weh ya ya weh
ya na neh ho
ya weh ya ho
if every beat of your heart pulled me closer
would nothing ever drag me away
all the pain and disappointment
all the dues we have to pay
sage smoke whispers true
i only want to be with you
ya na neh ho
weh ya ya weh
ya na neh ho
ya weh ya ho
i pushed this body across the desert
i have been lost under the moon
i found my way to the sacred mountain
i found my way back to you
yes i have traveled far
only to be where you are
ho ya na neh ho
weh ya ya weh
ho ya na neh ho
weh ya ya weh
ho ya na neh ho
weh ya ya weh
ho ya na neh ho
ya wah ya ho
HIDDEN MEDICINE
Words & Music by Robby Romero
i've been dancing all night long
the drum beats a piercing song
up on a mountain visions of life
together we are strong
follow me up to taos peak
walk softly on the earth
like a breath of hope resting on your lips
in a sacred moment of birth
i feel hidden medicine
waiting there for you
and there's some hidden medicine
to ourselves we must be true
in the home of the mountain spirit dancers
healing water runs
smoke form our fire wraps around your body
in harmony we are one
running through the bad lands
hiding in the black hills
bear back on the plain under crying rain
are we real surreal
i feel hidden medicine
yea waiting there for you
and there's some hidden medicine
tell me what you want to do
white buffalo woman
left a blanket of snow at my feet
in the different moons of changing seasons
a time we all will meet
i feel hidden medicine
waiting there for you
yea there's some hidden medicine
to ourselves we must be true
i feel hidden medicine
yea waiting there for you
and there's some hidden medicine
to ourselves we must be true
AGENDA 21
Words & Music by Robby Romero
Spoken Word Ernest Erick
some times i'm scared i don't know how
to let you in and i want to now
in a world of hunger and greed your love is all i need
help me
change this path of sorrow
save us from tomorrow
from tomorrow
tomorrow
this is the back bone of the gwich'in athabaskan people
the last frontier
save us from tomorrow
from tomorrow
tomorrow
save us from tomorrow
