RED THUNDER takes SACRED SITE CRUSADE on NATIONAL HORDE TOUR
The native rock band Red Thunder will give voice to crucial American Indian concerns and put out a call to action to protect sacred lands on tour with major headliners such as Blues Traveler, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Matthews band, Natalie Merchant and Rusted Root on this summer's HORDE tour.
HORDE stands for Horizon of Rock Developing Everywhere. Red Thunder has joined the tour , singing about Native America faces, and that is why it has been said that Red Thunder is on the Horizon of Rock Developing Everywhere.
Red Thunder's Native roots begin with its tie to the land so the band uses its lyrics to call young native peoples to action on Native concerns. Their music is both poltically active and spiritual. Songs like "Medicine Woman" and "Hidden Medicine" are on their most recent release.
The HORDE Festival begins July 6. Singer and songwriter Robby Romero, Apache, and Benny Concha, Taos Pueblo, bassist Paul Martinez and flutist Mazatl Galindo, Aztec-Mayan, bring traditional Native drums, flutes and rattles in sync with a classic folk/pop style.
Their style politically active enviornmental messages will be heard by thousands of young people across the country. During the tour they will be the only band with a booth for their "Call To Action" movement to protect sacred lands from desecration and destruction.
"Our burial objects are kept along with the bones of our ancestors in museums all over the country. We're not even thought of as human," band leader Robby Romero said.
"Our names, appearences, cultures and traditions are used as mascots, logos, cartoons and slogans in the sports arena, advertising world, educational instutions and throughout popluar culture - cars are named after us like the Jeep Cherokee - you would never hear one of them called the Chrysler Jew," Mr. Romero said to illustrate a couple of the issues his band adresses.
In the past, the four-year-old band has performed with such notables as 10,000 Maniacs, Bruce Hornsby, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne.
"Makoce Wakan; Sacred Earth", directed and co-written by Mr. Romero aired last November on VH-1's "World Alert Series."
The special explored Native American sacred sites and their importance to the culture.
Soon after it was viewed, VH1's Viewer Services Hotline was bombarded with calls.
